An explanation and overview of the iLumina package Minimum System Requirements to run iLumina:
iLumina Package Contents:
Explanation of the DVD vs CD: The 4th disk is a DVD-ROM disk, for you to use in case you have a DVD-ROM drive on your computer. It cannot be used on your regular DVD player as a regular movie. If you have a DVD-ROM drive install from the DVD (If you've been able to watch DVD movies on your computer then you have a DVD drive). This will save you from having to swap CDs during a 'Typical' installation. In addition, installing from the DVD will give you higher-quality images and videos than installing from the CDs. You should be aware that because of the larger size of the high-quality DVD multimedia files, performing a 'Typical' install from the DVD requires approximately 200 MB more hard-disk space than installing from the CDs. Also note that only one installation is needed; you can install from the CD-ROMs or the DVD, but you never need to do both. Explanation of the installation process: When using either the CDs or the DVD to install iLumina, you are presented with two (2) choices: Typical or Compact. Typical installation using the CDs: Performing a "Typical" installation from the CDs will require you to insert each CD at a certain point in time during the installation. It will ask you for a specific CD at a specific time. When putting each one in the drive and closing it, wait a moment or two (2) before clicking "OK". This will let the CD drive get the CD ready to be used before continuing the installation. This "Typical" installation process will take you through inserting all 3 CDs, once through the third disc it will ask you to insert Disc #1 back in the drive. This is normal. Once the first disc is back in the drive the installation process will complete and it will tell you when it's finished. Compact installation using the CDs: Performing a "Compact" installation from the CDs will only require you to insert the first disc into the drive. This is because it's copying less information to your computer. DVD installation: Performing either a "Typical" or "Compact" installation from the DVD will still only require you to have that one DVD disc in the drive. Choosing "Typical" will copy all the necessary materials needed by iLumina to your computer, choosing "Compact" will only install the basics need to run iLumina. The DVD contains all the same materials that the CDs do except that the Animations on the DVD are of a higher quality. *If your computer is older than 3 years then we would not recommend using the DVD to install iLumina. Compact vs Typical, which should I choose? We recommend doing a "Typical" install from the CDs in most cases. This will keep you from having to insert any discs back in the drive while you're using iLumina. A "Compact" install leaves material on the CDs that iLumina needs, for instance, the animations. When iLumina needs to use the animations it will ask you to insert the corresponding disc in the drive. Using a "Compact" install will slow down iLumina's performance a bit, but in some cases a "Compact" install is required. If your computer doesn't have enough hard drive space to install all of iLumina then it's best to use the "Compact" install. A "Typical" install, as noted earlier, installs everything that iLumina will ever need onto your computer, therefore requiring more space on your computer than the "Compact". This also means that you won't have to put any discs back in the CD drive at any point time. This will speed things up and is generally the preferred method of running iLumina.
